Hi there and welcome to my new blog! Since I can remember, I’ve always said “a stranger is just a friend that you haven’t met yet”, so feel free to send me a message or comment on my posts – I look forward to getting to know you better.
I grew up in Durban, South Africa and moved to New Zealand when I was 18 years old. We didn’t have council recycling collection in South Africa but for our family it was completely normal to collect our recycling over the month and then take it to the recycling station to be disposed of properly. My parents made it such a normal thing to do, they really had a great influence on my care and compassion for the environment. It’s a great example of how much influence we can have on eachother to make better choices. New Zealand has some great programs in place for waste reduction and it was only natural that I’d start learning more about how best to manage my own waste in line with our Reduce, Reuse and Recycle ethos. I love that it’s grown to be the 5 R’s which now include Refuse and Repurpose!
I like to spend my spare time outdoors and I’m very much a generalist in many areas! I enjoy a wide variety of activities including ice hockey (my first true love), SCUBA diving, hiking, wakeboarding and camping. That said, I love spending time indoors too, either reading, cooking or watching movies. We have two beautiful but very different cats – Rogue and Sammy, short for Sambuca.
I hope that you find this blog useful and informative. If you have any questions about everyday sustainability, I’d love to help you find the answers that you’re looking for so don’t be shy my friend!
